PINP Community Open DayThe Phillip Island Nature Parks (PINP) Community Open Day is on Saturday, September 14.Free entry to all PINP attractions is available all day for Bass Coast Shire residents, landholders, and students and members of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community. Proof of residency is required. At Churchill Island there will be a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony at 10.00am followed by farm activities and old-time lawn games until midday. The Koala Conservation Reserve will be open from 1.00pm to 3.00pm to discover the koalas and the bush-stone curlews. Enjoy the walks and views at The Nobbies at 3.00pm with a special ice cream deal from Ben & Jerry’s. The Penguin Parade is open for General Viewing on Friday and Saturday evenings. Start with a Conservation Dogs Demonstration at 3.30pm, then explore the Conservation Expo before heading out to the penguin parade from 5.30pm. Although free, bookings for some events
are essential.
At the Koala Conservation ReserveTIDAL FestivalSan Remo’s TIDAL Festival is back again on September 20/22!Celebrate San Remo’s fishing village history and traditions and discover scrumptious local seafood and wines plus fine regional produce. The celebrations kick off with a dinner on Friday September 20. On Saturday is the traditional Blessing of the Fleet to ensure a safe and bountiful harvest for all the local fishermen. The program includes fun family activities, pelican feeding, food stalls, live music and cooking demonstrations. Cafes and restaurants throughout San Remo will be providing delicious seafood meals. The Deckies Race is a hotly contested event with teams of two deckies each vying for the prize. Challenges include tossing a float into a cray pot and more. See the full program below.
Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix TrafficThe Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix comes the island from October 18-20.There will be an increase in traffic around Phillip Island for the duration of the event. At certain points there will be changes to road access, such as near Phillip Island Circuit. Thompson Avenue in Cowes will be closed to cars at the northern end between Chapel Street and The Esplanade. At some times during the weekend, Back Beach Road from the triangle roundabout to Phillip Island Circuit will be one way. Exiting the island on Sunday after the MotoGP (scheduled for 2.00pm), the “blue line” will be in operation to provide an extra lane for vehicles. Police will be in place to direct traffic. On Saturday morning, there will be the usual cavalcade of motorcycle riders onto the island. This popular spectacle is scheduled to leave Caldermeade at 11.00am so find your viewing spot and wave your flags! Take care and show patience driving around

Motorcycle CavalcadeMusic FestivalsDuring November two musical festivals will come to Phillip Island.On Sunday November 17, Phillip Island Jazz is presenting The Jazz Extravaganza Day. Held at the Phillip Island Bowls Club, Dunsmore Road, Cowes, the event will be between 10.00am and 5.00pm with a BBQ lunch provided. Performers include Rebecca Barnard and Friends, Stevenson’s Rockets, and The Syncopators. Bookings essential. The Phillip Island and Bass Coast Ukulele Festival will be held at Berninneit, Thompson Avenue, Cowes from November 30 to December 1. The festival program includes workshops, concerts, play-alongs and performances. Bookings open September 1.
Bush-stone CurlewHave you seen the Bush stone-curlew aviaries at Phillip Island’s Koala Conservation Reserve?Once seen in large flocks over south eastern Australia, sightings of these birds have declined, and it is now listed as endangered. Phillip Island Nature Parks, with Odonata and Australian National University, is collaborating to introduce Bush stone-curlews to Phillip Island. As Phillip Island is part of its indigenous home range and is fox free, it is an ideal location to establish a population. Discover more about this project in the link below.
